Karpaz Peninsula
The most extensive day trip to the pristine beauty of the Karpaz Peninsula!
Duration of the trip: 09: 00-18: 00.
Driving along the northern coastal road, our first stop will be at the Byzantine church of Panagia Pragminiotisa. The church is a renovated 12th century building that hosts a nature exhibition while the beautiful garden is used to display tiny versions of the most important buildings in Cyprus such as the Gothic-style cathedral in Nicosia.
Our next visit will be to the Church of Ayios Thyrsos, where Orthodox Christians pray for disease relief.
Continue driving to the far end of the peninsula, where we will stop for a coffee break in the village of Dipkarpaz and visit the mosque. Apostolic Andreas Monastery (an important pilgrimage destination for Orthodox Christians, in renovation) and a stop for a refreshing swim in Golden Beach are the next highlights in this wonderful day schedule at the eastern tip of Cyprus.
The Lion‘s Heart: Hillaryon and Blaapais.
Join our exclusive half day program to visit the two most important sites of Kyrenia!
Our tour begins with a short drive from Kyrenia to St. Hillarion Castle. With walls and towers that seem to stem from the rocks almost randomly, this is a pretty real rumor that uses Walt Disney as inspiration for the castle in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” The highest point is c. 730 m above sea level and the view is wonderful. From the castle we drive to the Balais Monastery, one of the masterpieces of Gothic architecture in Cyprus. The village and monastery became famous with Lawrence Dorrell’s book “Bitter Lemons from Cyprus”.
